BharathAutos readers know in Januray-2016, we posted an article of mysterious Mahindra TUV300 test-mule testing in Mangalore, at the moment we were unaware of what the company is testing!
Now with the launch of a more powerful version of the Mahindra TUV300 it is clear that the company was testing a mHawk100 engine under the hood, instead of the standard model’s mHawk80 unit. Compared to the standard TUV300’s 85hp and 230Nm, this re-tuned engine results in an increase in power and torque output to 100hp and 240Nm respectively.
Powered by the same 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine that does duty on the mHawk80, but is re-tuned to produce 100 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 240 Nm of torque @ 1,500-2,800 rpm. The engine is either mated to the 5-speed manual gearbox or 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). It is the same re-tuned engine that is also plonked on the new Mahindra NuvoSport.
The mHawk100 TUV300 will be sold alongside the mHawk80 TUV300. The new engine is only available in the T8 manual and T8 AMT variants, which are priced at Rs. 8,000 higher than the mHawk80-powered T8 and T8 AMT respectively. Both of them will also feature a larger rear seat cushion to increase thigh support for rear passengers. The mHawk100 TUV300 receives no other changes.
