Mercedes-Benz, the German luxury car manufacturer, today launched the Mercedes GLC-Class SUV in India priced at Rs. 50.70 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune).
Mercedes’ sixth SUV in its Indian portfolio, the GLC will be positioned between the GLA and the GLE. It will compete with the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Volvo XC60, and Range Rover Evoque. The new GLC actually is altered version of GLK SUV which was offered with left hand drive system. The GLC is based on the same MRA platform as the C-class and borrows heavily from its sedan cousin.
Noteworthy features include auto-adjustable LED headlights with DRLs, auto park assist, 360-degree camera view, powered tailgate, three-zone AC and an elaborate music system connected through COMAND interface with touchpad and navigation. The 5-seater SUV has decent 550-litres of boot space, which can be further expanded with folding the second row of seats.
Under the hood are two engine options, one each petrol and diesel. The GLC 300 gets a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 245 BHP and a peak torque of 370 Nm, while the GLC 220 d trim gets a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel mill that develops 170 BHP and 400 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a 9-Speed automatic gearbox.
The first few units of the new GLC will be brought in India as CBUs (Completely-Built-Units), and will be named as the GLC ‘Edition1’. Later, the company will eventually start assembling the GLC at the Chakan facility in Pune (via the CKD route), which will further decrease its prices.
Prices of the Mercedes-Benz GLC (ex-showroom Pune):
- GLC 300 4Matic Petrol – Rs. 50.90 lakh
- GLC 220 d 4Matic Diesel – Rs. 50.70 lakh
