2013 Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept
The German luxury car maker, Mercedes-Benz after showcasing the GLA crossover concept in the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show recently is now planning to start the production of GLA crossover concept very soon and is expected to be available to the consumers out of which India is expected to be the one of the first few countries to get this car in the sales market. The Mercedes GLA concept is expected to compete the likes of BMW X1, Audi Q3 and the upcoming Volvo V40 Cross Country.
Mr. Eberhard H. Kern, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes India said that “The GLA concept which was revealed at the Shanghai Auto Show recently, can come to India to compete in this (entry-level SUV) segment “. Although BMW was the first to initiate the premium entry level SUV i,e BMW X1 in India back in 2010 after which Audi came up with Q3 SUV in mid-2012 both of which was priced around Rs 27-33 lakh. Mr. Kern also said that “Delhi NCR is one of the fastest growing automobile markets and the demand for our cars here is very encouraging”.
Coming to the technical specifications, Mercedes GLA concept would measure 4.38-meters in length, 1.97-meters in width, 1.5-meters in height and will have a boot space of 500-liters. The GLA concept is based on the looks of an Athlete i,e it would feature a big sporty front grill, sweptback headlamps, bulge hood, chrome skid plate, huge air dams, LED fixtures and a 20″ inch alloy wheel. It would be powered with 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine which has a maximum power of 211 Bhp. The engines power would be provided to all the 4-wheels via 7G-DCT Transmission.
