2016 Maruti YBA artist’s rendering – an accurate preview of the Compact SUV?

Unofficial artist’s renderings of the 2016 Maruti Suzuki YBA have surfaced on the AutoCarIndia paper magazine in December-2014 issue, which are claimed to have been based on recent spyshots of the all-new compact SUV.

2016-maruti-suzuki-yba-compact-suv-rendered-pictureThe YBA is more likely to debut at 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, soon followed by market launch.

Handsome, isn’t it? Judging by these rendering, the YBA gets muscular styling and borrow cues from the iv-4 concept which has now spawned into the Vitara SUV. It retains the tapering window line, angular tail-lamps and open-mouthed lower air dam. However, some things have been toned down, like the grille, which is simpler one with horizontal slats instead of vertical slats.

The YBA’s look is a good mix of sporty and rugged. The wheel arches don’t have excessive cladding, the windscreen is steeply racked back and thanks to a floating C-pillar, the glasshouse gets a cockpit-like look. At the rear, the YBA is likely to get a spare wheel on its tailgate. Obviously, it will be less than four-metres-long and will be Maruti’s rival for the Ford EcoSport.

Slated to be unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo, the YBA is said to be based on the existing Maruti Suzuki Swift platform and would qualify for the sub-4 metre excise benefit, helping it to be priced between Rs 5 lakh to 8 lakh. The company will offer the compact SUV in both petrol and diesel engine options and in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants.
