Maruti being the No.1 passenger car manufacturer and seller in the Indian market is now planning to enter into Light Commercial vehicle (LCV) market by launching its first vehicle in the LCV segment next year. Maruti’s Y9T LCV is currently being tested in the Indian roads and is expected to be powered with company’s first home grown 800cc two cylinder diesel engines which will also be powering the upcoming Celerio.
Maruti Y9T’s design is based on the old JDM Suzuki Futura
Maruti’s new upcoming LCV is expected to be launched in early-2015 at a price tag of INR 3.5-4.5 lakhs competing the likes of Mahindra Maxximo, Tata Ace and Ashok Leyland Dost in the Indian market. As already read by our dear readers in our previous posts last year, Maruti’s new LCV would be based on the Suzuki Carry platform which is already on sale in China, Indonesia and Pakistan.
Mr. R.C Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) said –
“Though the company has an unshakable presence in the passenger car business, it is new to the LCV segment and hence would play it safe by rolling out the Maruti Y9T LCV on a very limited scale in order to understand the market and sales experience. In order to market the LCV, Maruti is in the process of setting up a dedicated sales and distribution network since the customers for the LCV and passenger cars are different”
