The Maruti Suzuki Alpha Concept was definitely a showstopper at the 2012 Auto Expo Show. Interestingly, we now have some pictures of its production-model YBA (codename), which definitely has the Alpha signature style.
From the pictures, this vehicle has a cockpit-like profile at the rear, together with a floating C-pillar design and steeply raked windscreen. Quite like the concept, really. The publication believes that this vehicle powered by Maruti’s existing range of petrol and diesel engines. A 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines and the 1.3-litre Fiat-derived DDiS diesel power plant.
It was earlier expected that this YBA SUV will be the first Maruti to debut with the company’s in-house 1.5-litre diesel engine, but due to some unknown reasons the debut of this engine is postponed to 2018. Now the fresh reports reveal that this new motor will make way on the YBA’s first refresh/facelift. Like Baleno, all variants might come equipped with dual front airbags, ABS and EBD for added safety.
Rumours are that this model will ultimately be the called the iV-4. It is believed that this vehicle will be offered at regular Maruti showrooms instead of the NEXA outlets which currently house only the S-Cross and the Baleno. It is rumored that a production-ready version will debut prior to the 2016 Auto Expo in February and that mass production will begin sometime next-year.
