Maruti Suzuki will concentrate on increasing its CNG vehicle range, instead of offering a small diesel engine, according to a media report.
Shashank Srivastava, Executive Sales and Marketing Manager, has confirmed that the production of a small diesel engine does not make sense. He also said that diesels make up less than 5 per cent of cars from the hatchback category. As well as the entry-level SUV category, demand for the oil burner has decreased in sedans.
Sales of Maruti stable CNG cars crossed the 1 lakh milestone earlier this month. In 2010 Maruti started selling cars powered by CNG. Models such as the Alto, WagonR, Eeco, Tour S, Celerio, Ertiga, and Super Carry are currently available with optional CNG.
