Maruti S-Cross Petrol to launch on July 29, gets 4-speed auto

But the recent lockdown imposed in the country meant that Maruti Suzuki had to shift the launch date. It is also reported that the Maruti S-Cross petrol will be available in three variants instead of four. These include the Delta, Zeta and Alpha variants.

On the other hand, the Sigma variant will be axed from the model range, with the Delta set to be the starting variant of the car from now onwards. It is unlikely that the S-Cross will be getting some cosmetic changes other than the introduction of a petrol motor. But it will still recieve a few important features which were seen on the diesel variant.

Maruti Suzuki is finally expected to introduce the Maruti S-Cross petrol BS6 on July 28, 2020.

These are LED projector headlamps, cruise control, ABS, dual airbags and so on. It will also be featuring the same 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Engine-wise, the S-Cross petrol will now be featuring a BS-VI compliant motor.

This comes in the form of a 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology. The engine does produce 103 BHP of power along with 138 Nm of torque. It will come mated to options of either a 5-speed manual or a new 4-speed automatic transmission.

The new 1.5-litre petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system produces 103 BHP at 6000 RPM and 138 Nm at 4400 RPM.

This will be the first time that the S-Cross will be available here in an automatic transmission. On the other hand, the new petrol motor will replace the 1.3-litre diesel unit seen on its earlier model. Maruti Suzuki opted-out of upgrading the motor to the current BS-VI emission norms and as a result, it got phased out by the automaker.

With the S-Cross petrol, Maruti Suzuki will look to regain some lost ground in the segment it operates. It will lock horns with the new Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster and the Kia Seltos. We can expect prices of the S-Cross petrol to start from Rs.10 lakh onwards when launched.
