Maruti Suzuki are considering to give their Ignis a mid-cycle facelift. Though it has not yet been revealed when it will be launched, we can expect it to happen sometime in mid-2019. The Ignis, launched here in 2017, has not been able to deliver meaningful sales numbers yet for the company.
As a response, Maruti Suzuki will be giving the hatchback a much needed upgrade. Reports have surfaced that production for the current model has been discontinued recently. Bookings are still open for the current Ignis as Maruti Suzuki are keen to clear some remaining stocks for the Ignis.
The Ignis is expected to carry a few changes when it comes here. Maruti Suzuki did launch the Baleno facelift with change like a new bumper, alloy wheels, an updated infotainment system and some extra bits on the dashboard. We can expect the facelifted Ignis to carry the same changes upon its arrival.
The Ignis is powered by 1.2-litre petrol engine making 82 BHP of power and 113 Nm of torque. This engine contributes for a majority of the Ignis sales since launch, as a result of which the 1.3-litre diesel was scrapped due to poor demand. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual with an automatic being available as an option.
Prices are expected to be starting at Rs. 5-6 lakh, which is in the same range as the current model. Rivals include the Hyundai Grand i10, Mahindra KUV100 and the Maruti Suzuki Swift. Maruti Suzuki will hope that the facelift will do a world of good to the sales numbers of the Ignis, which at the moment are not up to the mark.
