Although being the largest passenger car maker in India, Maruti Suzuki has seen a market share dip of 6.69 % for the year 2012-2013 compared to the market share of 45% earlier in 2010-11. This dip was due to the fact of cars such as A-Star, Estilo and SX4 which has not obtained decent sales in the Indian market. In order to compensate this dip in market share and also tight competition from the rival companies such as Hyundai and Honda, Maruti Suzuki has planned to introduce YL7 and YL1.

The companies YL7 is expected to be a replacement to SX4 and would be unveiled at the Delhi Expo 2014. After its launch, YL7 could reach in the third quarter of 2014 to the consumers in the Indian market. Maruti’s YL7 would aim to compete the likes of Honda City and Hyundai Verna. A detail of the updated SX4 to be released in 2014 has already been published and read by BharathAutos readers in our earlier posts.

Apart from this regarding YL1, it would be a replacement to the existing A-Star which has not seen decent sales since its first launch. Although releasing an updated version of A-Star did not show any impact in the India car buyers. Maruti has obtained the position of the largest passenger car maker due to sales obtained by the small cars. Hence small cars being the main source, the company is expected to make replacement to the A-Star by providing large interior and boot space which would be included in YL1. It is also expected to hit the Indian car market later in the year 2014.
