After the tragic incident that happened a week ago at the Maruti premises in Manesar, the car maker seems not to admit it. The company has to contend with depleting stocks of both their best selling models – Swift and Dzire, both of which are produced at Manesar Plant. The car maker has dispatched about 10,000 Swifts and Dzires to dealers across India and there are no more in stock as on date.
This situation is likely to continue till such time as production is stalled at Manesar and though the company has not stopped taking in orders, dealers and customers will have to contend with a long waiting period. Receipt of increased orders and customers willing to wait indefinitely for deliveries only shows the loyalty of customers and this is something that is boosting company spirits in these trying times.
As on date Swift has booking order for 55000 units while Dzire has about 65000 bookings with a majority of these being for diesel variants. Currently, the top end Swift Diesel hatchbacks carry a waiting period of 2 months while the top end Dzire diesel comes with a 5 month waiting period. Company officials have also confirmed that production operations will not be shifted to MSIL Gurgaon plant.
Meanwhile, to take the advantage of this situation other auto companies are striving hard. Companies like Hyundai, are stepping up production and instigating dealers to initiate sales. Hyundai is pushing forth sales such as their i20 and Verna models while Maruti Swift and Dzire waiting periods are extended indefinitely.
Hyundai has stated that higher incentives will be paid to dealers selling i20 and Verna. Skoda Auto too revealed that there would be benefits seen to their brands like Skoda Fabia due to the situation in Manesar while Ford India is also banking on delays on the part of Maruti Suzuki to ensure better sales of their products.
