Man finds his stolen car 42 years later on eBay

1967 Austin-Healey

A Texas man by the name of Robert Russell found his beloved sports car for sale on eBay Motors in California 42 years after it had been stolen. Russell told the LAPD that he had never given up searching for his 1967 Austin-Healey after it was stolen from his Philly home in 1970.

Russell had purchased the car for $3,000 from his friend only to find it stolen after he took his now-wife out on their second date.

“The fact that the car still exists is improbable,” he said. “It could have been junked or wrecked.”

He randomly checked eBay for the car and finally spotted it a couple of weeks ago. He immediately called the dealership that was selling it and Philly police for help. The report was eventually found and the file was reactivated. The move allowed LAPD to impound the car.

Russell’s baby is now worth $23,000.

“It still runs, but the brakes don’t work well,” he said. “We’re going to put it back the way it was.”
