The compact utility vehicle from Mahindra which has been codenamed U301 is said to be the next gen Mahindra Bolero which is due for launch around the festive season later this year. There are numerous spy shots as well as renderings of the car all over the internet but now we have spyshots of the side profile of the car which shows exactly how compact the Mahindra U301 is.

The Mahindra U301 is built on a shortened Scorpio based hydroformed chassis which has made the U301 a sub 4-metre compact SUV, which puts it under the subsidised road tax scheme. The design of the SUV is simple and rugged and there are very little curves to be found in the design language. The front of the car sports a very XUV-esque grille with simpler looking vertical slats on the grille. Though we are not very sure of the exact design language of the exteriors, we are sure of what is available on the inside of the car.

The interiors of the U301 will feature an all new dashboard design with the instrument cluster being borrowed from the flagship XUV 500 and the new three spoke steering wheel is complete with steering mounted controls which can be used to operate the touch-screen infotainment system with 2-DIN, USB, Bluetooth and AUX-IN features.

In addition to this, the top of the line variant will be available with automatic climate control, ABS and dual front airbags. Not much is known about the engines which will be powering the U301, but the 3-cylinder diesel engine from the Quanto might be plonked in, albeit in a different state of tune. The U301 will be available with both a manual gearbox and an optional AMT(automated manual transmission) gearbox.

The Mahindra U301 is expected to be priced at between Rs. 5-8 lakhs(ex-showroom)
