Small is beautiful, seems to be the new mantra for India’s largest utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra. M&M is all set to enter the highly competitive small car market with the launch of a small car. Sources told Indian Express that the Mahindra small car will be powered by a sub-1000 cc engine. Mahindra and Mahindra will be launching its small car in India by 2013-14.

A Mahindra small car is expected to be priced between Rs. 2.5-3.5 lakhs, which will make it a head on competitor of the Maruti Alto segment in India. This is good news for the small car buyers as competition helps to bring in more choices, better features and competitive pricing in the segment. With the small car in India getting better in performance, fuel economy and features, this market is hotter than ever.

Mahindra has decided to set up a manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu for the manufacturing of this small car, which will go into production by the end of 2013. M&M has selected four primary vendors for the project codenamed ‘BRL’ and also shared the prototype with them. The vendors, who refused to be identified, are specialists in powertrain, lamps and steering systems respectively.
