On my tour to Ooty, a popular hill station in Tamil Nadu this week. I found Mahindra SUV’s Xylo mini as well as Mahindra W201 undergoing a trial run at a high-Altitude in Nilgiris Ghat heavily forested mountain roads typically consisting of several consecutive sharp hair-pin bends.
As we already reported earlier that Mahindra’s both the SUV’s has been spotted many times. This time for first time bharathautos.com posted its own spyshots that was surprisingly spotted by editor myself. I have got clear spy pics of Mahindra Xylo mini. But I was unable to get the Clear pictures of Mahindra’s W201 (World SUV) because I was being driving on the Ghat’s. All I manage to get was a small glimpse of the World SUV. But I never missed a fraction of second looking at the SUV it looked production ready.
The first obvious thing that I noticed it had a tough look bigger than the Scorpio and looks like an Mitsubishi Outlander. Both in terms of size, and hopes of Mahindra, which is planning in America and Europe to launch the vehicle? The SUV sports big design curves under the wrappings and projector headlights next to Mahindra’s seven-slat grill resembles to much a family look. The side mirrors also have turn indicators embedded in them. Competing against the likes of the Honda CR-V, Chevrolet Captiva and the just-launched Tata Aria crossover, the W201 is Mahindra’s first global model developed on a monocoque platform, a first for M&M. Also the W201 would come with a horde of safety features including Reverse parking sensors. According to me a company may call the W201 (World SUV), like the recently-launched Verito & all other Mahindra vehicles having their name which ends with the letter ‘O’ and now the W201 may join this ideology.
Mahindra Xylo Mini could be India’s first mini MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) based on the successful Mahindra Xylo. It has been in development for quite some time and has been seen tested here and there. Mahindra Xylo mini SUV will get an engine below 1500cc, 3-cylinder, and 5-seater measured at 4-meters long that will get the lower excise benefit.
This set of spyshots of the Xylo mini clearly defines the rear, design wise. The tail lamps are placed even higher and the bumper has been redesigned with the reverse light attached to it. Mahindra added a sporty element by fitting the spare tire at rear to the tailgate (Note the omission of spare tire in the above pic). The front fascia and side profile have to appear compact, and Mahindra’s design team have to pull out something special.
As you clearly see in these pictures that it looks like Premier Rio but the Mahindra front carries more promising. Also, the wheels look a tad smaller in the hideously huge rear wheel wells hinting at a shorter stance for the Mini Xylo MPV. We’re anticipating more information about the Mini Xylo MPV and we’ll be publishing another big story soon.
