Mahindra & Mahindra continuing its electric mission, plans to introduce a mild-hybrid system in the Scorpio dubbed as ‘Intelli-hybrid’.
Already Mahindra Scorpio is on-salewith ‘Micro-Hybrid’ system, which is nothing but a simple automatic start/stop technology. But the new ‘Intelli-Hybrid’ will be a proper mild-hybrid system with an idling start/stop system, brake energy recuperation, a larger battery and an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) that will offer a mild electrical boost to the engine under certain driving conditions.
The ‘Intelli-Hybrid’ system works when the vehicle is braking, the ISG converts the kinetic energy of the rolling wheels into electricity and stores in the battery, this system combines it with the power from the engine to help the vehicle during acceleration. While the car comes to halt due to traffic signal/jam, is in neutral gear, the engine will shut down automatically after few seconds.
To restart, the driver must press the clutch pedal, the engine starts immediately for continuing the journey. Owing to the new technological upgrade, the mild-hybrid technology will offer better fuel efficiency figures compared to the current ones. It will be the first ever proper hybrid car from the Mahindra stable and it will make way to other Mahindra products as well.
However, this mild-hybrid technology will only be available in the 2.2-litre diesel engine, and hence will not be available to the Delhi-NCR customers who get the downsized 1.99-litre engine.
