Just a day after the new broke-out on the Mahindra Scorpio with Intelli-Hybrid technology, the company has officially launched the vehicle. The top-of-the-line S10 2WD (Manual Transmission) variant with Intelli-Hybrid technology is priced at Rs. 12.84 lakh (ex-showroom, Navi Mumbai).

The Scorpio Intelli-Hybrid will be on-sale with the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, and is offered in the S4, S4+, S4+ 4WD, S6+, S8, S10 2WD (Manual Transmission), S10 4WD (Manual Transmission) variants. Rest of the variants like the base S2 grade with the 2.5L m2DICR engine, Scorpio (Automatic Transmission) and the Scorpio 1.99L mHawk (sold only in Delhi NCR) doesn’t get Mahindra’s Intelli-Hybrid technology.

As reported yesterday, the Scorpio Intelli-Hybrid comes with an idling start/stop system, brake energy recuperation, a larger battery and an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). While the vehicle is braking, the ISG converts the kinetic energy of the rolling wheels into electricity and stores in the battery, this system combines it with the power from the engine to help the vehicle during acceleration.

When the car comes to halt due to traffic signal/jam, is in neutral gear, the engine will shut down automatically after few seconds. To restart, the driver must press the clutch pedal, the engine starts immediately for continuing the journey. This system helps in reducing fuel consumption by up to 7 per cent by assisting the engine with electric power during acceleration.

With the Intelli-Hybrid system, Scorpio becomes third vehicle in the Indian car market to come equipped with a mild-hybrid system. Maruti Suzuki offers a similar technology under the SHVS moniker in its Ciaz sedan and Ertiga MPV. Thus making the Scorpio Intelli-Hybrid, the first SUV to get a mild-hybrid system in the country.
