In September-2014, Mahindra launched the second-generation Scorpio with a manual transmission, now the company is all-set to introduce the automatic variants of the same.
The company had started testing an automatic transmission version of the Scorpio, but there was no fix date on when exactly the launch will happen. Now the leaked details indicate that Mahindra is indeed getting ready to launch the Scorpio automatic in next few weeks and has sent the mechanical details of the AT variant to the RTO for registration purposes.
Unlike the old Scorpio, the new Scorpio will offer an automatic option in both 2WD as well as 4WD configuration, and the following document also states:
Mechanically remains unchanged. The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine would continue to churn-out 120 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. Except ‘Automatic’ badge on the tailgate and the sides are expected to help differentiate the Scorpio automatic from the manual transmission version, no other visual changes are expected.
Expected to be priced around Rs 1 lakh higher more than the manual variants, but would still be one of the most affordable automatic diesel SUVs in the country. At this price point, Mahindra will position the Scorpio AT against the automatic transmission versions upcoming Hyundai Creta and the Maruti S-Cross.
