The country’s most interesting vehicle has been launched today, Mahindra Reva e2o (ee two oh). This next-gen electric car for India comprises around the company’s new global vision of ‘Future of Mobility’, designed on 5C platform – Clean, Convenient, Connected, Clever and Cost-effective. Mahindra Reva e2o is launched at a price of Rs 5.96 lakhs (on road Delhi after the subsidy that Delhi government offers on EVs).
The car comes with a lot of modern features which makes Reva e2o one of the most advanced electric cars in the world. In terms of the segment, Reva is a pure plug-in electric car and does not run on any other type of fuel except for electric charging. The charging can be done from a normal electricity outlet at home or office, or at an electric vehicle charging station, and even using the solar energy by using solar to electric panels.
The features include, Hill hold, courtesy lights, iPod connectivity, one – touch foldable seats, 4 JBL speakers and 2 tweeters, dual-damping Glove Box, CD, DVD, USB, AUX, MicroSD, turning radius of 3.9m, 6.2 inch touch screen, personal web-page, driver information system, keyless entry, start/stop, electric wing mirrors, rear defogger, scissor wipers, LED tail lamps, Projector headlamps, follow me home headlamps, reverse camera, digital user manual, GPS navigation, Integrated Maps, and Bluetooth.
Built on the futuristic ecoystem of Sun2Car, the e2o derives its power from a 48-volt, 29kw electric motor, belts out a maximum power output of 39.4bhp and 53Nm of peak torque, promising to offer the running cost around 40-50 paise/km, while protecting and preserving the environment. The car impresses with its top-speed of 81 kmph. Furthermore, a range of 100 kms on a full charge in 5 hours, 1 hour charge gives 20 kms range.
Mahindra Reva e2o is a two door hatch with seating for upto 4 adults. Powered by 48V Lithium-ion battery that is maintenance free. e2o needs a servicing just once every year. Dimensions of e2o stand at 3280 x 1514 x 1560 (mm), wheelbase 1958 mm, ground clearance at 180 mm, and kerb weight at 830 kgs. The Mahindra e20 is available in six colors – Arctic Silver, Coral Blue, Eco Green, Oceanic White, Spanish Red and Sunshine Yellow.
Apart from revealing details and features of their new electric car, Mr Mahindra also revealed that they plan on selling their car in international markets as well. Exports of e2o will commence from 2014. In India, the e2o will be targeting environment conscious and tech savvy urban customers who want a second car.
The all-new electric car for India is part of Mahindra’s Future Mobility project and is built at a total cost of INR 100 crores ($20 million). Mahindra stated that even though they have a capacity to manufacture 30,000 units of e2o annually at their plant in Bangalore, they will be happy if they manage to sell about 5,000 units annually. Mahindra is predicting that the global EV market would be at 3.8 million units per year by 2020.
