Mahindra will be bringing a diesel-powered variant of the KUV100 AMT to the Indian market. We can expect it to arrive here sometime during-2019. The homegrown automaker also has plans of rolling-out an electric version of the KUV100.
This will be based on the eKUV100 displayed during the 2018 Auto Expo. It will arrive with a 30kw motor and a lithium-ion battery pack, seen on the eVerito. Mahindra claims that the eVerito offers a range of 140 km, which we can also expect from the KUV100 electric.
Coming back to the AMT version, Mahindra mentioned that they had plans of introducing it when they rolled-out the KUV100 NXT last-year. The petrol version will not be coming with an AMT gearbox as of now. Mahindra will look to give the KUV100 constant updates in order to keep it in demand.
Engine-wise, the company is said to be working on a new diesel motor which will be introduced on the S201 compact SUV. It is likely to be a 1.2-litre G80 motor, delivering 123 BHP of power and 300 Nm of torque. This engine will come mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission.
We can expect a new engine to be launched with the upcoming S201 earlier next-year. This diesel engine comply with the BS-VI norms coming into effect from 2020. The diesel AMT version will introduced in the current financial year, while there is no fix time-frame for the launch of the electric version of the KUV100 currently.
