In an interview with the British magazine AutoExpress, Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern has suggested that the company is planning a sportier version of the Range Rover Evoque. The model will most likely carry the Range Rover Evoque Sport name.
“You can go too far with the Evoque, but what’s so right about the car is it has what I call killer proportions,” McGovern said. “For the moment, we’re looking at the cabriolet and special editions – we could do a more overtly sporty one, for example.”
McGovern went onto say that 88 percent of Evoque buyers are new to the brand, which has allowed the company to push boundaries with a concept like the Evoque Convertible Concept and the Victoria Beckham special-edition that was unveiled at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show.
As for the engines to be used in the Range Rover Evoque Sport, rumors are talking about an updated version of the current 240bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, tuned to deliver more than 300 HP. But a 2.2-litre SD4 engine will also be offered for the diesel fans out there, also with an output increased from the current 190 HP to at least 210 HP.
However, do not get to excited, the Range Rover Evoque Sport will make its debut late in 2013.
