Indian car and bike registration rules get stiffer

Indian car and bike registration rules get stiffer The spate of terrorist attacks occuring in the country has led to RTO revamping rules and regulations regarding registration of vehicles.  Terror threats and planting of car and bike bombs has made RTO sit up and take notice.  They are likely to make registration norms stricter with two to three levels of checks which will be followed by verifications of addresses while delivering RC books.

High ranking RTO officials said that they would be bringing in stricter registration norms and would be emphasizing on proof of address along with passport and voters ID copies.  Unless proved to be genuine residents of Mumbai, no car and bike registrations would be accepted.

Stricter rules were needed to deter false or devious applications.  RTO offices at Andheri, Tardeo and Wadhala no longer accept land records as proof of residence.  Migrants from other states would need to attach lease agreements, details from employers ID cards etc to avail of licenses in the future.

Services of postal departments too have been roped in to verify residence proof.  Delivery of RC books will be made by post and residences would be double checked by postal departments failing which RC books would be returned to RTO for cancellation. The latest development will ensure that the level of fraud licensing for cars and bikes will be curbed in quick time.
