BharathAutos readers know that Hyundai is gearing up to shift its focus to the compact SUV and MPV segments in India, apart from the crossover. Now the company has officially stated that it will launch Hyundai ix25 Compact SUV, followed by Elite i20 Cross in second half of 2015. Furthermore, the company said that the MPV will not launch before 2016.
Hyundai will commence sales of new MPV in India likely in early 2016.
The South Korean automaker has invested Rs. 1,000 crore to develop the ix25 Compact SUV and another Rs. 500 crores for Elite i20 Cross. However, no information about the MPV for 2016 is revealed yet. In all possibility, it could be the production version of Hexa Space concept (codenamed HND-7) unveiled at 2012 Delhi Auto Expo.
At the moment nothing much is known about the HND-7 MPV, it is speculated that the MPV will have a monocoque bodyshell and front-wheel drive. It carries the company’s characteristic ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design language and features well crafted elements to match the current trend. And this 8-seater MPV is expected to be aimed at the Honda Mobilio, Maruti Ertiga, Toyota Innova and upcoming Renault Lodgy.
As per reports on Business Standard, that all three products (MPV, crossover, compact SUV) will have a localization content of not less than 90 percent, which should help it to keep the price of the vehicle in check.
