Just last-week we reported you guys that Hyundai is silently developing a sub 4-metre compact sedan based on the i20 hatch to replace the Accent. Now the fresh report suggests that the South Korean car maker plans to launch the next-gen i10 (already spotted testing in India) by end-2013, which will be based on an all new platform that is also capable of hosting a compact sedan.

This information comes from Hyundai Turkey’s Chairman, Ümit Karaarsalan, who goes on to state that the next-generation 2014 i10 hatchback and the compact sedan would be produced in Turkey. Therefore it is clear, Hyundai is indeed working on a compact sedan model to support its current car line-up and this compact sedan will be based on the next-generation i10 platform.

The upcoming compact sedan based on i10 will be positioned between the i10 and the i20 hatch respectively. It is believed that this i10 compact sedan will directly compete with other upcoming compact sedans like the Honda Brio Amaze, the refreshed Maruti Dzire CS, the Mahindra Verito, the Tata Manza CS and the Toyota Etios CS.

The upcoming i10 hatch and the compact sedan are expected to be available in both petrol and diesel engines. We can blindly say that the Hyundai i10 based compact sedan will be launched in India, as the country as given the big demand for such cars. We can expect both the new models to hit our shores by 2014, firstly, the hatchback version will be launched followed by the compact sedan version.

This report also hints that there are very little chances of Hyundai coming-up with a compact sedan based on the i20 hatchback.
