According to a Economic Times report, the Hyundai compact SUV which was previewed as the Carlino (HND-14) design concept at the 2016 Auto Expo earlier this-year is scheduled to hit showrooms in 2019.
Borrowing design cues from the Carlino concept, the 5-seater compact SUV from Hyundai will be a bold, boxy and youthful crossover that will tuck under the crucial 4-metre length limit. To keep the costs low, it will be highly-localised further share few components from the Grand i10 and Elite i20.
Confirmed engines include a 1.0-litre direct injection turbocharged petrol engine with performance credentials at par with those of the EcoSport’s famed 1.0-litre EcoBoost unit. While the diesel variant is expected to get the Hyundai’s existing 1.4-litre mill. Further report states that the AMT gearbox will be on offer.
Once launched, the Carlino will compete with the Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the yet-to-launch Tata Nexon. With the compact SUV, the South-Korean car maker will have a strong SUV lineup comprising of the Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Tucson and Hyundai Santa Fe.
