A camouflaged prototype of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz CLA has been spied undergoing final testing on the streets of Dubai, UAE. The company is using the Dubai to conduct tests on the durability, calibration and general testing for heat or humidity.
It’s been quite a while since we last talked about the CLA but now myself Mohammed Asrar has managed to snap a few shots of a prototype testing in Dubai. Looking essentially like a downsized CLS saloon, the car spotted here will be the saloon version of the new A-Class hatchback at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show.
Talking about the design, the headlights look very similar to recent Mercedes models and side profile too identical to the CLS, albeit scaled down to compact size. While the rear trunk appears to have a longer overhang compared to the outgoing model, maybe due to the thick layers of camouflage.
Being a new-generation model, the 2019 CLA is very likely to ride on company’s new Modular Front Architecture front-wheel drive platform, which also underpins its hatchback sibling. Also there are chances that it will share the same engine line-up as the A-Class in both front- and all-wheel-drive configurations.
In the India, the new CLA will act as the next-gen entry-level sedan from Mercedes lineup, while the hatchback version is reported to launch in mid next-year. We expect to see the next-generation Mercedes-Benz CLA debut sometime in 2019 as a 2020 model.
