DSK-Hyosung, the newly formed partnership between South Korea’s S&T Motors and the Pune-based DSK Group has recently (13th June, 2012) launched much awaited baby sports bike, GT250R in India with a price tag of Rs 2.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This smallest member of Hyosung family will compete with the Ninja 250 and the Honda CBR250R.
For a bike like this, it is quite reasonable. The bookings, however, have been opened up to customers some time back. To draw customers, the company has given few luring finance offers too. At the on-road price of Rs. 3.10 lakh for the Hyosung GT250R, the company aims to sell as many as 3000 units per year. But it is to be seen is whether the buyer prefers to buy the Hyosung GT250R at this price or decides to invest another Rs. 1.2 lakh and buy a Hyosung GT650N instead.
GT250R is an aesthetically styled sports bike that demands attention, needless to say it is quite similar to Hyosung GT650R, which was launched in India the previous year and it has got a great appeal too, thanks to the radical design cues adopted by Hyosung. It looks massive when compared to its rivals.
The 17 liter fuel tank is pretty impressive and so are the twin disc brakes. It is powered by a 4-stroke oil cooled V-twin engine, an engine that roars at 28 bhp at 10,000 RPM, beating at a torque of 22 Nm at 8000 RPM is what the machine has to offer you. You can vroom from 0 to 100 kmph in about 10 seconds riding this bike and attains a top speed of over 150 km/h. It sounds great we believe, even better than the Ninja and CBR 250R.
The front of the bike gets upside-down telescopic forks, while the end has been gifted with an adjustable monoshock. Hyosung wins hearts when it comes to fuel efficiency. When running in traffic, it runs at 26.4 kmpl, while on a highway it swifts along at 33.5 kmpl. But surprisingly Honda CBR250R is faster than the new Hyosung GT250R doing 0-100 kmph in just 8.97 seconds. (See more pictures of Hyosung GT250R below the jump)
What we say? Bike lovers will vigilantly wait for the naked version of GT250 which may be on-sale by 2013. Costing around Rs. 50000 approx. less than the GT250R, the GT250 supplemented with the additional benefit of local production will surely be a threat to the KTM Duke 200.
