Japanese car manufacturer, Honda has officially revealed that the new Brio-based saloon will be called the Amaze (for Thailand and Indian markets). The Amaze sedan has been developed extensively for emerging markets in Asia and it will be first launched in Thailand on November 23. In India, the Amaze sedan is scheduled to hit our shores by mid-2013.
The Amaze will be the entry-level sedan for Honda and will directly compete with the likes of the Indigo eCS, Swift Dzire and the upcoming sub-four-metre Mahindra Verito. This model will be introduced to our market at affordable prices realized by increasing cost competitiveness through local sourcing and production. It will be available with a choice of petrol and diesel engines.

The Honda Amaze will be sub-4-metre in length and will hence benefit on the excise duty front. And it will be the first Honda car to be launched with diesel engine in India. It will be powered by the new, all-aluminium 1.5-litre diesel engine which the company claims will be the lightest and most fuel efficient diesel in its class. The diesel option is expected to deliver a mileage of 25 kmpl.
As far as prices are concerned, the Brio-based, Amaze compact sedan will be priced between Brio hatch and City sedan. Pricing is being kept competitive as the company is expecting to generate volumes in India with advantages of being first diesel engined car that Japanese auto manufacturers will be launching in the country.
