REPORT: Honda planning a low-cost motorcycle for India

Well, it seems not only Yamaha has the idea of launching a low-cost motorcycle for emerging markets, into its fold – Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) too announced its plans to launch a low-cost motorcycle for emerging markets. Currently, the company already sells motorcycles priced less than Rs 40,000 in South Africa and will bring in similar products to India as well.

The manufacturer’s local R&D in our country will work on the new product for the Indian market. And the Japanese manufacturer also has plans to launch over 10 new products in the coming year out of which 7 would be product refreshes while the rest 3 would be completely new products. Apart from this, they also announced that they expect to achieve double digit growth in the domestic market next year.

Honda will also extend their dealership network with an aim of expanding to 3,800 outlets by the end of this fiscal year from the 3,400 at present. They also plan to increase the annual production capacity to 5.8 million units which at present is at 4.6 million units, once their fourth manufacturing facility in Gujarat becomes functional in the coming year.
