Honda India has just launched the Honda Civic decked out with a sunroof. The Honda Civic sunroof range hits the market with the price tag of Rs 13.53 lakh for the 1.8l manual transmission and Rs 14.27 lakh for the 1.8 V automatic transmission (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The launch was carried out in the presence of Bollywood actress Chitrangada Singh along with Tatsuya Natsume, director, Marketing, HSCI and Jnaneswar Sen, vice president, Marketing, HSCI (Honda Siel Cars India).
In a study undertaken by Honda, the sunroof was found to be the most desirable feature in the Civic sedan. A sunroof, apart from adding appeal to a car from the outside, also gives the passengers a panoramic feel of the interiors – making it look brighter and larger.
Speaking on the occasion, Tatsuya Natsume said: “We are delighted to introduce the new Civic with sunroof which further augments the style quotient of the car and make it even more desirable. We believe that this variant will greatly appeal to the customers for whom the style is a way of life.”
The Honda Civic was launched in India in 2006, and since then has done well for itself in the lower D segment of the industry. Honda has sold over 50,000 units in the last 4 1/2 years and has won several automobile awards including the Indian Car of the Year 2007 and topped the JD Power Initial Quality Study in 2010 with the best ever score in the Industry.
The Honda Civic is powered by a 1.8 L i-VTEC engine that generates maximum power of 132 bhp @ 6300 rpm with maximum torque of 175 Nm @ 4300 rpm. Honda’s trademark i-VTEC technology regulates the opening of air-fuel intake valves and exhaust valves in accordance with engine speeds. By regulating valve opening to match engine speed, the agile i-VTEC engine adjusts its characteristics to realize both superior power and low fuel consumption. As per ARAI standards, the Honda Civic returns a healthy 15.5 km/l. The car is available in manual as well as automatic transmissions.
Safety features of the Honda Civic include ABS, EBD, brake assist, dual SRS airbags and pretensioning seatbelts. Also, Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body and G-CON (G-Force Control Technology) provide a high-integrity survival zone that enhances self-protection and better compatibility in collisions with other vehicles.
Honda also recently unveiled the 2012 Honda Civic Coupe and Sedan Concepts at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. The photos of new Honda Civic don’t suggest a major break from the current styling. While the styling is dynamic, the front nose bears resemblance to Mitsubishi cars which haven’t caught the fancy of Indian buyers. The rear-end treatment too is quite unremarkable. We will wait for the India launch before we pass the verdict.
