This is the first leaked photo of the upcoming Brio-based SUV called Honda BR-V, looks very aggressive than we hoped. The Honda BR-V is scheduled for August 20 (tomorrow) at the GIIAS 2015 (Gaikindo Indonesian International Auto Show) in Tangerang.
Just a day before the official unveiling, the spy pictures of the car without any camouflage have leaked on the internet. The BR-V acronym stands for BOLD RUNABOUT VEHICLE and the design is inspired from the Vision XS-1 Concept which was on display at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. The BR-V is based on the Brio platform, just like the identical looking Amaze and Mobilio, but there is no confirmations on it from Honda yet.
Design-wise, the BR-V is similar to the sketch that Honda teased in June-2015. It features projector headlamps, a chrome grille similar to the one on the Mobilio MPV and the City sedan, round fog lamps with chrome bezels, a wide air-dam with a honeycomb mesh grille, silver skid front plate, black cladding on the sides and over the wheel arches, new sporty alloy wheels, roof rails and a high ground clearance. All these features raise the SUV-credentials of the car.
Import data taken from a website reveals that 3 units of the Brio SUV have been imported from Thailand and brought straight to New Delhi as Air Cargo in April-2015 itself, therefore, India launch is confirmed. Although Honda India has remained tight lipped of the BR-V, we expect it to be revealed at the 2016 Auto Expo in Feb next-year.
Powering the BR-V will be both the petrol and the diesel engine options. The tried-and-tested familiar, 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine (100 hp and 200 Nm), which does duty on the Jazz, Amaze and the City. The 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine from the City, good for 118 hp and 145 Nm of torque, should make an appearance too. The engines will be either mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and a CVT transmission. The report also states that ESC (Electronic Stability Control) could be offered on the top-end trim.
