Ford India recalls more than 1 lakh units of Figo hatch and Classic sedan

In an official statement, the automaker said it was recalling all cars manufactured between September 2010 and February 2011 to replace the power steering hose.  The problem had been identified as the potential for the PAS hose to develop an oil leak. This could result in the emission of hazardous fumes.  The statement added that there was also a possibility for the steering fluid to come in contact with the exhaust, possibly leading to fumes or a fire.

According to a company statement, a total of 111,000 vehicles will be inspected for technical and engineering fitness manufactured between Jan 2008 and Dec 2010, the rear twist beams (RTB) will be replaced if found defective after an inspection. The problem has been identified as a potential crack, for which signs are an abnormal sound from the rear, said the statement. Over the long term, this could result in a failure and render the vehicle inoperable.

To check if your Figo or Fiesta Classic is due for a recall, you can visit Ford’s field service action page where you will have to enter your vehicle’s 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).  It is expected that Ford will replace the parts free of cost.
