Believe it or not, this is the updated Hyundai Verna for 2014 which is available on-sale now. As we at BharathAutos said, the upgraded version of Hyundai Verna has already hit the showrooms by end-November, the three major visual updates include a new set of twin 5-spoke diamond cut alloy wheels, automatic projector-based headlamps and daytime running lamps (DRLs). Rest of the exteriors remain unchanged. With these changes and strong grip of Verna in Indian market it is expected that this facelift will further enhance the number of Verna admirers in Indian car market.
On the inside, the updated Verna gets back-lit buttons for the power windows and steering-mounted controls. However, as expected Hyundai has omitted the middle-row headrest from the rear seat, thus, now features two headrests in the place of three, although its a 5-seater sedan. Other unnoticeable changes on the new Hyundai Verna include safety escort headlamps, position lamps, automatic headlight control and new re-designed smart key. The top-end Verna comes with alloy wheels, and that the spare wheel in higher trims is now a steel rim instead of an alloy wheel.
The prices of the updated Hyundai Verna has been increased by Rs. 20,000 which starts at Rs. 7.40 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base petrol version. The Verna is available with two petrol and two diesel engine options – 1.4-litre petrol, 1.4-litre diesel, 1.6-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel. The 1.4-litre petrol/diesel engine is mated to five-speed manual gearbox, while the 1.6-litre petrol/diesel engine gets two transmission modes: the four-speed automatic transmission mode and the five-speed manual transmission mode which directs power to rear wheels.
The Verna competes with the likes of Honda City, Maruti Suzuki SX4, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, Nissan Sunny, Renault Scala and Fiat Linea. Certainly the new Honda City will dent some sales of the new Verna considering the car is now availabel with the diesel engine option. Also the recently launched Skoda Rapid with the similar new features like projector headlamps and steering mounted controls. However, the updated Verna with new looks and almost complete modern features, it is quite certain that it will not only compete but may also outrun other cars in its segment.
Undoubtedly, the next launch from Korean car manufacturer in India is the new generation full-sized Santa Fe SUV, which could be unveiled at 2014 Auto Expo in Noida, and bookings for the SUV will commence shortly after that. Followed by the launch new Eon with more powerful petrol engine, as well as diesel engine too is expected to make way. The Elantra facelift is also scheduled to come India sometime next-year. Another new model will be added to the Hyundai line-up is the Grand i10 compact sedan, which will measure under 4-metres in length and expected to hit showrooms by end-2014.
