Fiat 500X crossover to debut in next-year

2013 Fiat 500L

Fiat has a new addition to its 500 line-up in the works with a new crossover It has named the 500X.

Like the 500, the 500X will be based on the Punto platform, but will be taller, and at 420mm in length, it will be longer as well. Power will be the same as the other 500 models, which are the 0.9-liter TwinAir two-cylinder and the 1.4-liter four-cylinder petrol motor. A 1.3-liter turbo MultiJet II diesel variant will also be available.

Jeep is also expected to be borrowing the model’s platform for its own upcoming, yet unnamed crossover.

It is not sure if this car will come to India but going by the premium image of the 500 hatchback and the fast growing crossover market, the 500X sure makes some sense to the country.

Fiat is anticipating selling 280,000 of the 500X models each year, and production is scheduled to begin at the Mirafior, Turin factory in December 2013.
