Honda Activa was launched in the Indian market back in 2001, after which it had obtained modifications to the styling cues as well as performance in the recent years. This year, Honda has yet again modified its range of scooters promising fuel efficiency of 60 kmpl.
Although TVS Jupiter was launched recently this year, TVS has been a company and their first scooter, the Scooty was launched way back in 1994.
1) Styling:
Honda Activa comes with a nice body dynamics, flowing side panels, vents in the side panels and at the front below the headlamps. It also features top mounted turn indicators but does not feature pilot lamps.
TVS Jupiter looks like the siblings of Activa, it comes with a 3D logo on both sides of the panels, which looks like a rounded panel (planet). It features turn indicators in the panel below the headlamps as already seen in Suzuki Access. It also features pilot lamps which is not present in the Activa.
2) Ergonomics:
In Activa, the rider sits upright and the handle bars are positioned slightly higher than the TVS Jupiter. The rear view mirror is well positioned and it gives a nice view of the vehicles coming behind when compared to Jupiter. It also provides better comfort for pillion riders when compared with Jupiter.
In Jupiter, the rider sits upright. It also features a very comfortable seat with excellent cushioning when compared to the Activa. Hence Jupiter is a little ahead in terms of seat cushioning.
3) Riding Dynamics:
Activa is featured with a combi braking system (CBS) which provides excellent braking when compared to the Jupiter. It is featured with trail link suspension at the front and conventional spring suspension at the rear which makes it outdated when compared to the telescopic suspension, gas charged suspension featured in the Jupiter.
Jupiter provides high speed direction changing and with excellent feedback from the customers as well as companies tag line “Body Balance” makes it a reliable scooter when compared to the Activa. The 12-inch wheel offers superior ride quality and ride regardless riding on bumpier, broken roads too.
4) Instrument Cluster and Switch gear:
Activa is featured with side indicators housed inside the meters on both sides with good looking fonts for the speedometer but is slightly dull when compared to the sportier cluster provided in the Jupiter .While coming to switch gear, Activa gets ahead of Jupiter.
Jupiter’s cluster is featured with a black background, fuel reserve light indicator, eco and power mode and turn indicators on both sides. The high beam button also features as pass button which indeed is a new feature in scooters. It also features yellow colored switch for the horn and red color for the ignition making it unique from all the other brands of scooters in the Indian market.
5) Performance and gear box:
Activa is powered by a 109 cc engine which produces a maximum power of 8.08 PS at 7500 RPM at a maximum torque of 8.74 Nm at 5500 RPM. Both Activa and Jupiter have a top speed of 85 kmph. Activa requires time to build up momentum and hence it is less comfortable than the Jupiter which always has power on the tap in the city traffic.
Jupiter is powered by a 110 cc engine which produces a maximum power of 8 PS at 7500 RPM at a maximum torque of 8 Nm at 5500 RPM. Jupiter’s engine is derived from the Wego and hence it has crisp throttle response when compared to the boring HET engine equipped in the Activa.
Jupiter being 2 kgs lighter than the Activa and the engine featured with no lag and jerks makes it the best transmission in the 110 cc scooter segment. Apart from this, Jupiter offers a fuel efficiency of 44.4 kmpl which is a bit higher than the 44 kmpl of the Activa (both fuel efficiency mentioned here are of real-world driving conditions in inner city areas).
