General Motors India has officially confirmed the launch of the Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV in India in the second half of 2015, while the Spin MPV is confirmed for 2016 launch.
The media reports now suggest Chevrolet has already started testing the Trailblazer SUV and Spin MPV in India. Based on import/export data, both the vehicles are imported into India for R&D purpose as the data suggests. While the Spin MPV has been snapped testing couple of times in and around Gujarat, the spy pictures of the Trailblazer SUV has not yet emerged online.
The Trailblazer SUV is likely to replace the slow-selling Captiva SUV, and will take on the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and upcoming new Ford Endeavour. As per the import data, the two units of Trailblazer imported are equipped with a 2.8-litre Duramax diesel engine, thus, powering the India-spec model in the same engine.
The Spin MPV is likely to replace the slow-selling Enjoy MPV since both are 7-seater, and will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Honda Mobilio and the upcoming Renault Lodgy upon its launch. As per the import data, the Spin’s imported are equipped with a 1.3-litre diesel engine (Fiat-sourced MultiJet engine), thus, it is this engine that they will focus on.
The news was originally shared with GM India dealers during their annual meeting in Bangkok on February 13.
