Even couple of months after the launch of the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze facelift, the car hasn’t reached the showroom in some parts of South India including Mangalore and Bangalore. Now our anonymous reader from Mangalore has sent us the snaps of first 2013 Cruze facelift spotted at the dealer yard in Mangalore. The Cruze facelift will be offered in 3 trims, 2 with manual transmissions, and 1 with automatic, the facelift model features only one engine option, 2.0-litre VCDi diesel.
It might not strike you at first glance, but that’s a new face you’re looking at – the front bumper’s been reworked with bigger air intakes and revised fog lamps. The rear bumper gets some small changes too. The nose is also swept back and made slightly longer, and new 16-inch alloy wheel designs feature 10-spoke unit instead of the 7-spoke unit found on the old car. The interior, benefits from the inclusion of USB connectivity and a new mixture of leather and fabric for the seats.
On the Cruze facelift, the top-end LTZ model gets side airbags in addition to the dual-front ones taking the total count of airbags to 4. The base LT model gets only a driver and passenger side airbag though. Other safety features include dual-front airbags, ABS and ESP, disc brakes all-round and front and rear crumple zones, while the Body Frame Integral (BFI) high strength steel chassis is complemented by a MacPherson struts up front and a compound crank setup at the back.
The familiar 2.0-litre VCDi diesel engine offers not only increased power at the lower end – from 150 PS in the older version to 166 PS in the new Cruze; torque goes up by a whopping 57 Nm available now in a lower rev band at 2000 rpm than at 2600 rpm before. This means that the complaints from the old version of turbo lag and difficulty in handling slow city traffic now become history. Transmission options include either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic unit.
The Cruze is indeed the most powerful diesel car in its segment and the manual transmission variant has an ARAI claimed mileage of 17.3 kmpl. A 3-year or 1,00,000 km warranty (whichever comes first) and a 24 hour, 7 days a week Chevrolet Assistance that is available nationwide is offered. GM has started working on the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze which will go on-sale by the end of 2015, and is said to be bigger and more feature rich compared to the current model.
