German car maker BMW has officially released photos and a few specifications of BMW’s upcoming 2012 BMW M5 sports saloon after the images of the car leaked on the internet earlier last week. Like all M5’s the styling is subtle, new BMW M5 is affixed with a restructured front bumper which appends muscular looks to the front while similar changes are present at the rear along with quad-exhausts. But aggressive in its details, most notably the lower air intakes, three gaping ducts to flow cooling air into the radiator, oil cooler and turbochargers. Nineteen inch alloy wheels are standard.
The performance sedan is now meaner than ever and features BMW’s V8 twin scroll twin turbo motor, which displaces 4395cc and produces (hold your breath) 560hp of power at 6000 RPM. The earlier E60 M5 produces only 507PS but at an insane 7750 RPM. Weighing in at 1870 kgs, the F10 M5 happens to produce 501 lb-ft of torque at just 1500 RPM. 2012 BMW M5 can reach from a standstill to 100 kmph in 4.4 seconds (0.3 seconds quicker than the E60) and 200 kmph in just 13secs M5s will be available with two top speeds – 250kph limited on the standard car or 305kph limited with an optional M Driver’s Package.
The transmission is a seven-speed, DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission) unit with steering-wheel mounted paddle-shifts driving through a new Active M differential with electronically-controlled multi-plate limited slip diff. An M-specific chassis set-up includes M-tuned Servotronic steering, cockpit-adjustable dynamic damping and immovability control with an M Dynamic setting.
With BMW already awaiting BMW 1 Series for launch in Indian car maker, BMW India is enjoying the sales figures of BMW 5 Series sedan cars which are currently gaining good popularity amongst Indian consumers. But we see no reason why BMW India will not launch the new M5 in India and is expected to go on sale in global markets by November this year.
