During the first half of this year, the Above 250cc motorcycle segment sold more than 2,40,000 units, which is a lot more than the approximate figure of 1,60,000 units sold in the first half of last year. These figures do mean a lot, which has shown in a few reports, according to which, India is now the third largest market for Motorcycles Above 250cc and Below 500cc.
What this means is that, almost every premium motorcycle manufacturer in the world wants to be a part of this lucrative segment and even some who have not been in the premium segment wants to get there fast. TVS Motor Company had expressed their desire to be part of this segment and so had BMW Motorrad, so this ended up in TVS Motor Company tying up with BMW Motorrad in a strategic partnership to Produce Sub-500cc motorcycles for both Domestic and Overseas Markets, at a less cost of production.
The product of this Partnership was recently revealed by TVS-BMW, and has been named the G310R. The G 310R which is designed and engineered by BMW Motorrad, will be Built at the TVS plant near Chennai, in Tamil Nadu using machinery imported from the BMW Headquarters in Germany.
Mr. Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and MD of TVS Motor Company had earlier stated that the Motorcycle would be rolled out by the end of 2015, but a later meeting called by the company indicated that the Motorcycle would be launched early in 2016 instead. Well, as per latest reports, the Auto Expo 2016 in New Delhi, would be the opportune moment for the TVS-BMW Duo to launch the G 310R.
The G 310R is powered by a Liquid cooled, 313cc, SOHC, Single cylinder engine with a Maximum power output of 34 BHP and a maximum torque output of 28 NM. The Motorcycle is targeted straight at the KTM Duke 390 and the Upcoming Bajaj Pulsar 400 motorcycles.
