Benelli are keen on constructing their India operations presently and for that to happen are planning a couple of new launches that could be hitting the market soon. The new products will cater to various ends of the premium motorcycle market and Benelli are said to be working on bringing them here as soon as they can. One such model that comes under the bracket is the Imperiale 250, which could be heading here soon.
Though there is no official news on whether it will be coming here or not, reports suggest that Benelli are presently working on the model for India. Thus, if it turns out to be true we can expect the Imperiale 250 to come here by 2022. The motorcycle will be Benelli’s answer to long stroke unit motorcycles coming from the stables of Royal Enfield and Jawa.
The Imperiale 250 will be sharing its engine with other models from the company, namely the TRK 251 and Leoncino 250. This is a 249cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor which makes 25.8 BHP of power. Benelli have already updated the motor to both the Euro 5 norms and the BS-VI emission norms which are currently being implemented.
There is talk of Benelli tuning the overall specifications of the Imperiale 250 when compared to other 250cc motorcycles in its line-up now. This may be due to the laid back stance offered by the Imperiale 250, which may be difficult for the current engine to handle. The Imperiale 250 carries forward a retro look and will be one of the first motorcycles available here coming under the capacity.
This would undercut models from Royal Enfield, who mainly occupy the 300-400cc segments here. It is being said that a 250cc Royal Enfield is also on the works, which is most likely to be called the Sherpa. We can expect the Sherpa to also arrive on the same time as compared to the Imperiale 250 here.
This would result in a good amount of competition in a newly formed segment which may see a dearth of competitors in the next few years. Benelli are expected to price the Imperiale 250 around Rs.1.5-2 lakh if they eventually do decide on bringing it here. We can hope to receive news on the Imperiale 250 as soon as its confirmation is done for our market.
