Benelli is seriously looking to make it’s presence felt in the 600cc middle weight class, by launching the BJ600 GS in global markets at the end of the year. It is likely to be unveiled in India next-year, at the Auto Expo in Feb-2018. The BJ600 GS, a sports tourer by nature will fit into the 600 class and will carry a 4-cylinder motor.
Images have come out on the internet of the BJ600 GS, albeit rumoured to be a prototype. The bike is expected to carry the same frame from the TNT600i with a 80bhp 4 cofounder motor present in that bike. The motor will be up to date as far as the emission norms are considered.
The BJ600 GS does show a lot of potential when it comes to its design. The bike is seen in a complete tourer kit which includes a large front windscreen, pannier bags built-in stereo system etc. It has a chunky stance that will appeal buyers, but it has its origins from the 1200cc tourer from Benelli as well, set to be launched by next-year. With the launch of both bikes, Benelli will aim to be a major player in the tourer segment as well.
The 1200cc, unlike the BJ600 GS, had not yet been confirmed here, and it may take time to do so. Now, Benelli will be keen to expand its popularity in India with the BJ600 GS, which could serve as the landing platform for the launch of the bigger displacement (1200cc) bike in the future, which is currently being made. The BJ600 GS will rival the Hyosung GT650R, Honda CBR650F and the Kawasaki Ninja 650R.
