Tata Motors are all set to roll out another car based on the X1 platform. The X1 platform currently underpins the Tiago hatchback and the Tigor compact sedan. Next in line will be a crossover-hatchback, christened the Tiago NRG.
The Tiago NRG (pronounced as eNeRGy) will be in showrooms from September 12 onwards. Recently, images of its brochure have been doing the rounds on the internet. This brochure has given an indication of what’s in store when the car is launched.
The Tiago NRG will see its ground clearance raise to 180mm, which fits it into cross-over territory. It features plastic cladding all around its exterior, dual tone 4-spoke 14-inch alloy wheels, smoked out headlamps, black finish on the roof and side mirrors to name a few. On the inside, the car will feature silver and orange accents on the dashboard, making it distinctive from other Tata models.
Features include an MID on the instrument cluster, 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cooled glovebox, driver seat adjustment, an 8-speaker Harman audio system and so on. Tata Motors likes to call the car a ‘Toughroader’, which basically is in between a crossover and an SUV. The Tiago NRG will be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options.
The petrol engine will be a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder unit developing 85 BHP of power and 114 Nm of torque. On the other hand, there is a 1.05-litre diesel engine which gives 70 BHP of power and 140 Nm of torque. The specifications reveal that the Tiago NRG will have its engines mated to a 5-speed manual transmission only.
Prices are expected to start from Rs. 5 lakh and go all the way to Rs. 8 lakh for the top-spec models. When launched, the Tiago NRG will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio X and the Ford Freestyle in the crossover hatchback segment. With the Tiago NRG, it is safe to say that Tata Motors has yet another winner in their hands.
