According to a report by AutoCarIndia, Tata Motors has confirmed the launch of two new SUVs – a five-seater and a seven-seater in the next financial year 2018-2019.
Though the report does not reveal the codenames of the upcoming two SUVs, they are the Tata Q501 and Tata Q502 SUVs that has been on development for more than two years now and a number of test mules too have been spotted multiple times with a Land Rover Discovery Sport body. Both these SUVs will be positioned above the Nexon, and most likely be the replacement for the Safari Storme model.
The two global SUVs comprise of a 5-seater compact SUV codenamed as Q501 expected to be priced around Rs. 13 lakh, and a 7-seater SUV codenamed as Q502 will cost Rs 2 lakh more than the latter. However, the automaker has stated that both these SUVs will be different in terms of look, feel and will come powered by a different set of engines too.
Tata Motors has placed an order for 70,000 units of the 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine a report from Economic Times claimed in May-2017. This engine is produced at the Ranjangaon facility and also does duty on the Jeep Compass. A 140 BHP spec engine would power the 5-seater SUV, while the bigger sibling will have the engine producing 170 BHP, mirroring the specifications of 2017 Mahindra Scorpio and 2017 Mahindra XUV500.
