First spotted undergoing road testing out on the public roads of India at Pune, as suggested earlier, the Skoda Kodiaq is scheduled to launch in India in September-2017.
With rivals such as the Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Endeavour and the Toyota Fortuner, the Kodiaq will be available in both manual and automatic gearbox options, and higher variants will get AWD system with Skoda’s Adaptive Dynamic Chassis Control that may be exclusive to the diesel variant. The SUV is based on the MQB platform and will be offered in one petrol and one diesel engine options.
Here, the Kodiaq gains Skoda’s most recent design language, which translates to a sharp angles, strong lines and tight surfacing mean it looks a lot more compact than it actually is; until you are standing right next to it. For something so big, it’s really impressive that it manages to look almost athletic. There’s a strong resemblance to the Superb – a car it shares its characteristic traits with!
The Kodiaq is available in 7-seater as well as 5-seater layouts in the international markets. However for India, the 7-seater version makes more sense, also the one spotted here is seen with third row seats. Features-list include the Skoda Connect infotainment system which comes with on-board WiFi and Google Earth, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity and 360-degree cameras.
For the Indian market, Skoda brand is likely to offer choice of one petrol and one diesel engines. The petrol one is powered by the 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder TSI engine with an output of 155PS, while the oil burner is a 2.0-litre TDI engine with an output of 190PS. Both the engines will be available with dual-clutch automatic transmissions. Skoda India will most likely bring in the diesel-engined Kodiaqs first.
