Those of you who are awaiting the all-new Toyota C-HR, listen up – Japanese car makers first-ever compact SUV is expected to arrive on Indian shores somewhere in mid-2018.
The C-HR is based on Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA), which it shares with the new Prius. It may be the first car from this all-new platform to be made in India. It is expected to be priced starting around Rs 15 lakh to compete head-on against the likes of the Creta and the Tucson. The major highlight of the CH-R is the interior that feels like the most premium Toyota to be made till date.
The C-HR is offered with a choice of two petrol and petrol-hybrid powertrains. Petrol engine options are in the form of 1.2-litre turbo engine generating 115 hp mated to either manual or automatic box. Second option is a 2.0-litre which is only offered with CVT. In a interview, Toyota Motor Corporation, Executive Vice President, Didier Leroy, said that the C-HR won’t be offered with a diesel engine due to sharply falling demand.
A 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine develops 115 hp mated to either manual or automatic box, while the other is a 2.0-litre which is only offered with CVT. No powertrain related information about the India-spec model is leaked. But reports suggest that Toyota might consider a turbo petrol engine for India with the C-HR, along with the regular diesel engine options.
