With the 150cc scooter lined-up for launch in the coming months in the Indian market, the main concern is whether these launches would be successful in India. Seeing the earlier response obtained for Kinetic Blaze, obtaining decent sales for the 150cc scooter range in the Indian market is still a mystery. But in fact the current sales percentage in the Indian market has seen motorcycle sales slowed down and scooters moving ahead swiftly in the race.
If this percentage continues further and also the newly added features and technology in the upcoming 150cc scooters can only tell whether higher powered scooters will obtain decent sales in the market or not. Already most of the scooters in India such as Honda Activa, Suzuki Access and few more in the list are already powered with a 125cc engine. Observing this, a mere increase in 25cc would actually not affect the efficiency drastically. Since all the scooter giants currently available in the Indian market, offer an efficiency of 55 kmpl with extremely careful riding then these upcoming 150cc scooters should give efficiency at least around 45-50 kmpl.
Coming to one of the 150cc scooter to be launched in coming months, Hero showcased the ZIR scooter range at the 2014 Auto Expo. ZIR features a 9-litre fuel tank, LED daytime running lights, LED lights, digital console, alloy wheels, hydraulic discs at the front and rear, projector headlamps, body-color painted brake calipers and fuel injection system of the ZIR can also interact with our smart phones to send telemetry directly via an application. It is expected to be launched in the first half of 2015 in the Indian market at a price tag ranging between INR 80000 and INR 85000.
Coming to the technical specifications, it is powered by a 150cc liquid cooled 4 valve engine producing a maximum power of 13.9bhp at 8500rpm and maximum torque of 12.7Nm at 7000rpm.
