Next-gen VW Vento to come here next-year, to feature in 2020 Auto Expo

Volkswagen will be bringing the next-generation of their capable mid-size sedan, the Vento here. It is likely to be launched in India during the second half of 2021. Volkswagen will showcase the next-gen Vento during the upcoming 2020 Auto Expo.

Volkswagen already sells the next-gen Vento in the Brazilian market. The new Vento, sold as the Virtus in Brazil, was launched there in 2017. Volkswagen initially had plans of bringing it here, but had to shelve them temporarily due to some unknown reason.

Now, the Volkswagen Group have announced their Project 2.0 India operation, thus bringing in models suiting Indian consumers. Under that, the German automaker are set to bring four new SUV’s, which were teased recently, for the 2020 Auto Expo. Other than that, the next-generation Vento will also be present in their stable during that event.

Volkswagen have said that they are working on a localised version of their MQB AO platform for India. This platform will be underpinning the next-generation models of the Vento and the Skoda Rapid. Both models mentioned above are expected to share the same internal components based on the platform.

Engine-wise, the next-generation Vento could be powered by a new 1.0 litre diesel motor, which at present is undergoing development. Other than that, it may sport the same engine options seen on the current model. Volkswagen will be updating the current motors to comply with the BS-VI emission norms.

As far as its prices are concerned, the new Vento could come with an affordable sticker price which may undercut it’s rivals. These include the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris and the Skoda Rapid. With the new Vento, Volkswagen will be confident of giving its rivals a good run for their money in a very interesting segment of the market.
