The new sub-4 meter SUV codenamed ‘H2X / Hornbill’ by Tata Motors was spied testing for the first time. The spy photos suggest that the styling of the vehicle ‘could be based on the H2X design shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019.
The Tata Hornbill seems to have arches of the squared-off axle. The lights on the tail look similar to those on the concept car. It has a rear windshield wiper and it is likely to place the door handles on the C-pillar for the rear doors. However, this prototype vehicle does not have a split rear spoiler like on the H2X concept.
It is expected that the new sub-4 meter SUV will be based on the Advanced Modular Platform (AMP), which is likely to support other future Tata cars. It could use the Tiago’s 1.2-liter, naturally aspirated petrol engine coupled with either a manual 5-speed gearbox or a manual 5-speed automatic transmission.
At the 2020 Auto Expo next-month in February, Tata H2X might be revealed in production form, with the launch date anticipated by Diwali 2020. It is planned that its production version will be named the Hornbill.
Once launched, the Tata H2X will take on the Mahindra KUV100, Maruti Suzuki S-Presso with prices estimated to be in the Rs 5 lakh range. Further details will be revealed at next month’s Auto Expo.
