Tata Motors has quietly introduced the updated 2015 Tata Safari Storme in the country. Not many changes, exterior-wise – the Safari Storme gets a new Land Rover-inspired honeycomb grille for the radiator and air dam and a tweaked front bumper.
Inside, there’s a new premium 6-speaker Harman audio system with Bluetooth, AUX, USB as well as steering-mounted controls. Furthermore, the 2015 Storme gets a black dashboard with silver accents and the same three-spoke steering wheel from the Zest and Bolt. The LX can also be had with sandstone beige interiors.
Powering the new Safari Storme is retuned 2.2-litre VariCor diesel engine retuning has made the mill churn out 10 PS more power, to deliver 150 PS max power @ 4,000 rpm and same 320 Nm peak torque @ 1,700 – 2,700 rpm, mated to same 5-speed manual transmission. Another change in engine assembly is the new self adjusting clutch with 260 mm diameter fly wheel, which is said to have improved durability/life. The ARAI-certified fuel efficiency rating of the SUV is 14.1 kpl.
Like the previous model – the updated Storme is available in 3 variants – LX (base), EX (mid) and VX (top). The VX can be bought as a 4×2 or a 4×4 with a shift-on-the-fly system and a limited slip differential. The EX and VX get a 7-seater configuration while the LX is a 5-seater. The EX and VX comes with all-round-disc-brakes, while the LX gets drum brakes at the rear.
The 2015 Safari Storme – which is available in five colours – Urban Bronze, Astern black, Pearl White, Arctic White and Arctic Silver is priced at Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base model. It will directly compete with the Mahindra XUV500, Nissan Terrano and the Renault Duster.
