The Tata GenX Nano has just been launched in India. The entry-level car in the nation, having first been launched way back in 2008 – is now in its second-generation. The GenX Nano is priced at Rs 1.99 lakh for the 4-speed manual variant and Rs 2.69 lakh for the 5-speed AMT variant, deliveries will start from today itself.
Several new additions, standard across the range, include an open-able bootlid and a larger 24-litre fuel tank as opposed to the previous generation’s 15-litre capacity. Cosmetic changes include re-designed front & rear bumpers with an ‘Infinity-motif’ grille design, round front fog lamps, smoked headlamps and a new rear windshield.
Key interior changes on the inside now include a 3-spoke steering wheel borrowed from the Zest, better quality inserts for the center console and new trims for the doors and seats. Equipment includes electronic power steering, air conditioner and heater, front power windows, central automated locking and a music system that provides Bluetooth, AUX, USB connectivity and 4 speakers.
The major highlight on the GenX Nano is the addition of AMT gearbox which is marketed as ‘Easy Shift’. Powering the GenX Nano is the same rear-mounted 624cc twin cylinder petrol engine offering 38 PS power and 51 Nm torque and offered in both manual and AMT variants. The manual variant offers fuel efficiency of 23.90 kmpl while the AMT variant is good for 21.9 kmpl.
Step up the range and the Nano AMT GenX also receives the creep function wherein the vehicle can move forward on its own if foot is released from the accelerator or brake pedal. This function comes to the rescue in constricting city traffic situations while in Sports mode, a surge of power is experienced at the press of a button.
The GenX Nano will be available in 7 colours (2 of which are new) – Damson Purple, Royal Gold, Dazzle Blue, Pearl White, Meteor Silver, Sangriya Red (new) and Persian Rose (new). The manual variant can accommodate 110 liters of luggage space, while the AMT variant has a boot capacity of 94 liters owing to a higher engine cover.
With these updates and 21 new additions such as stronger body, improved noise vibrations and improved fit and finish, the launch of Nano GenX is a make or break moment for Tata Motors.
